Bergey Windpower Company pioneered the development of small wind systems over 20 years ago and today is the worldwide industry leader. They have over 2000 turbines installed in over 80 countries worldwide and offer the only 5-year warranty in the industry.  Bergey currently manufactures three models of wind turbines, including the 1 kW XL.1, the 7.5 kW Excel-R and the 10 kW Excel-S.

Bergey has earned a reputation over the years for designing rugged turbines that incorporate smart technology.  All of their turbines are up-wind 3-bladed devices which incorporate direct drive components to minimize the number of moving parts.  They utilize pultruded fiberglass blades, which are 10 times stronger than injection molded plastic blades used by other manufacturers.  Their turbines also include a patented furling system, which turns the blades sideways to the wind to protect the turbine under extremely high-wind conditions.

Bergey XL.1

The Bergey XL.1 has a rated capacity of 1 KW, rotor diameter of 8 feet and a peak output of 1.6 KW at 28 mph wind speed.  It is ideal for small off-grid homes or cabins and is used extensively to bring electricity to remote villages in developing countries.  It is currently only available for battery charging applications, but will soon include a grid-connect option.

Bergey incorporated a number of technological advances in the design of this product, which was introduced in 2000.  New features on the XL.1 include a new airfoil design for greater efficiency and advanced "rare earth" neodymium magnets in the alternator to improve output and reduce noise.

Bergey Excel

The Bergey Excel is the best selling wind turbine in the U.S.  It has a rotor diameters of 23 feet and comes in three configurations.  The Excel-R is a battery-charging unit rated at 7.5KW, while the grid-connect Excel-S and water pumping Excel-PD are rated at 10KW.

The Excel is the workhorse of the Bergey line, with a rugged design proven in some of the harshest environments in the world, from Kamchatka to Timbuktu.  It is ideal for supplying electricity to large homes, farms or businesses, either on or off-grid.
