What's the Big Deal?
Why Renewables?

Most types of renewable energy are safe, non-polluting and will never be depleted. The three main forms of renewable energy used to generate electricity are:

bulletWind
bulletHydroelectric
bulletSolar

Wind and hydroelectric power use the kinetic properties of wind and moving water to turn turbines. Solar power uses the properties of certain materials to convert light into electricity.  Some other renewable energy sources are biomass, geothermal, hydrogen and ocean energy.

The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) studies these energy sources in order to promote their development and use in the United States.  NREL strives to raise public awareness of the effects that current methods of generating electricity have on the environment and the possibilities of using renewable energy.
